Start with what you need
Less gear.
A different kind of backup.
Lookback is an alternative for parents who want a back-seat reminder on their iPhone without adding a device to the car seat. It checks in after you park and step away, then follows up if you don’t answer.
A connected seat or sensor pad can add information Lookback does not have. Lookback does not know whether the seat is occupied. The useful comparison is what starts the reminder, what you need to set up, and who gets notified.
This comparison is written by Lookback, using the manufacturers’ published US information. We have not performed head-to-head reliability testing.

| What matters | Lookback iPhone app | SensorSafe Evenflo US offering | Doona SensAlert Sensor pad + app |
|---|---|---|---|
| What starts the reminder | Your iPhone detects parking and walking away. | A connected chest clip provides seat-related alerts. | A pad detects a child; separation from the paired phone triggers alerts. |
| Separate hardware | None. No sensor to buy or pair. | SensorSafe-equipped car seat and Bluetooth clip. | SensAlert pad paired by Bluetooth. |
| Alerts and follow-up | Lock-screen check-in, alarm or notification, optional call to your verified US number. | Phone alerts for an unbuckled clip, temperature, time seated and a child left unattended. | Notification, caregiver call, then calls and texts to emergency contacts. |
| Seat-specific monitoring | No occupancy, temperature or chest-clip monitoring. | Chest-clip status, ambient temperature and time seated. | Capacitive sensing of a child on the pad. |
| Other people notified | No emergency-contact escalation. | Family-member alerts with last known vehicle location if the caregiver does not respond. | Up to five emergency contacts. |
| What you purchase | The iPhone app. Planned subscription: $2.99 USD/month or $19.99 USD/year. | A compatible seat. Example: LiteMax NXT with SensorSafe, $249.99 USD for the entire seat. | SensAlert accessory: listed at $99 USD; car seat is separate. |

Why we built around your phone
Why choose
a phone-based reminder?
If you’re happy with your car seat and want a reminder without adding a sensor, Lookback is designed for that situation. The tradeoff is that it relies on your phone’s movement rather than information from the seat.
There’s no pad to fit, no chest clip to pair, and no new seat to choose just to use the app. There’s no account either. You set up the permissions, choose your alert order, and optionally add a first name and call number.
The first check-in appears on your lock screen. If you don’t respond, Lookback follows up with the alarm or optional call sequence you chose.
Choose it for the reminder sequence and the absence of extra hardware. If you need occupancy detection or alerts about the seat itself, those are different needs, and the hardware options below offer capabilities the app does not.

If you want information
from the car seat itself.
SensorSafe connects a car-seat chest clip to a phone over Bluetooth. Evenflo describes alerts for clip opening, ambient temperature, extended seating time and a child left unattended. Those are meaningful extra functions beyond a park-and-walk reminder. Evenflo’s feature overview ↗
For the US offering covered here, Evenflo says the clip belongs with the seat it came with and should not be moved to another seat. Its guidance describes adding seats to each caregiver’s account. Evenflo compatibility and setup guidance ↗
If you already own a SensorSafe-equipped seat, you already own that hardware. The current Evenflo app also describes family-member alerts with the last known vehicle location if the primary caregiver does not respond. Lookback does not offer that escalation. Evenflo app description ↗
Lookback may fit better if your priority is an iPhone reminder without a particular seat or sensor. SensorSafe offers more seat-specific information. Neither distinction establishes which is more reliable.
Lookback vs Doona SensAlert
If you want a presence sensor
and a wider circle of alerts.
SensAlert is a separate pad used with the Doona app. Its capacitive sensors detect a child on the pad; Doona’s setup guidance explains correct placement and sharing the device with other caregivers. Doona setup and sensor guidance ↗
Its published alert sequence includes a phone notification, a caregiver call, then calls and texts to emergency contacts. Up to five contacts can be added. The system uses Bluetooth between the pad and phone, with cloud services for calls and messages. SensAlert alert sequence ↗ Doona app overview ↗
Lookback’s optional call goes to your own verified US number. It does not contact a partner, relative or emergency-contact list. Its advantage is having no separate pad to install or maintain; it does not duplicate SensAlert’s presence sensing or contact network.
For any accessory, follow the car-seat and accessory manufacturers’ compatibility and installation instructions.
What does each option cost?
Compare the whole purchase.
These are different kinds of purchases. A car seat, an accessory and an app should not be treated as the same item.

Already own suitable sensor hardware? Its original purchase price is not a new expense. Shopping for a seat anyway? Compare the seat’s fit and features as well as its reminders. Lookback avoids a separate sensor purchase. Its planned subscription is $19.99 per year or $2.99 per month, so compare costs over the length of time you expect to use it, alongside the different features.
What fits your family?
Choose for the reminder
you actually want.
Consider Lookback when…
You use an iPhone and want a personalized check-in, escalating reminders and an optional call without buying or pairing a car-seat sensor. You’re comfortable giving location and motion permissions, and you understand that the app cannot detect a child in the seat.
Look more closely at SensorSafe when…
You want the chest-clip, temperature and seating-time features of a compatible seat, or already own one and want to use its connected functions.
Look more closely at SensAlert when…
You want a separate presence-sensing accessory and escalation to emergency contacts, and are prepared to set up the pad, phone connection and contacts.
Whichever approach you choose, keep checking the back seat yourself. A reminder or sensor can be a backup; it cannot take over that responsibility.
Before you decide
Questions before you choose.
Is Lookback a SensorSafe replacement?
It can be an alternative for someone who wants a park-and-walk reminder. It does not replace SensorSafe’s chest-clip, temperature or seating-time monitoring.
Is Lookback cheaper than SensAlert or SensorSafe?
Lookback’s planned annual subscription is $19.99, compared with the listed $99 SensAlert accessory and the $249.99 complete SensorSafe-equipped seat used as an example here. A subscription recurs, while those prices are hardware purchases. Total cost depends on how long you subscribe, what you already own, and any other applicable costs. The products also offer different features.
Does Lookback make emergency calls to my family?
No. Its optional automated reminder calls go to your verified US number. Lookback does not escalate to emergency contacts.
Does Lookback need a particular car-seat brand?
No. It uses your iPhone’s location and motion rather than a connection to a car seat. That also means it does not know whether the seat is occupied.
Has Lookback been proven safer than these products?
No head-to-head safety or reliability claim is made here. This is a comparison of published features, setup and listed prices.
